San Diego Public Library has partnered with the San Diego Unified School District to help end summer hunger. Free summer lunch will be provided for youth aged 0-18. Lunch locations include select libraries, parks, recreation centers and other community sites.

San Diego Public Library

In addition to providing summer lunch for youth, San Diego Public Library aims to bridge the summer learning gap by hosting enrichment programs, provide access to community resources and inform families of opportunities. Check the online event calendar and select a preferred location to see upcoming events.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn about and register for this year's summer reading program.

City of San Diego's Parks and Recreation department will provide summer lunches for all youth at 17 locations. Ten of these sites will also provide breakfast. Check the list for specific hours.

Healthy Meals with San Diego County Library

Together with Feeding San Diego, San Diego County Library and other community partners will offer free hotmeal service, grab-and-go lunches, afternoon snacks and boxes of dried-goods and fresh produce at select San Diego County Library locations.

San Diego Unified School District: Food and Nutrition Services is committed to providing high quality, healthy and tasty meals for our students. On their site, you can find more information about the summer lunch program, free and reduced lunch applications, school gardens, nutritional information, and more!

Feeding San Diego aims to support families and individuals with nutritious meals. As children are out of school and eating more meals at home during the summer, these resources are even more essential. Feeding San Diego’s website features a list of food distribution sites that have been established throughout San Diego where you can pick up fresh fruits and veggies and other pantry items, at no cost!

2-1-1 San Diego: Food Assistance can connect you to programs that help you and your family stay healthy and well-nourished such as CalFresh, local and regional food banks, emergency food services, the Women Infant Children (WIC) program, and more. If you need help getting food immediately, call 2–1–1.

CalFresh is a program funded by the USDA to help improve the health and nutrition of low-income families. CalFresh can stretch food dollars, allowing families and individuals to buy more fruit,vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and other healthy foods.

The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank and our North County Food Bank chapter provide nutritious food to people in need, advocate for the hungry, and educate the public about hunger-related issues. Their website features a food locator map tool to locate food distribution sites in San Diego County, at no cost! In addition, you can learn about many of their food resource programs, and more!

Restaurant Meals Program allows elderly, disabled, and homeless individuals and their spouses receiving benefits to use their Golden State Advantage (EBT) cards to purchase meals from participating restaurants.

WIC program aims to improve the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care.
